Outreach to Public Schools

God has provided opportunites for us to share the Gospel in the public schools. Each week we teach a 30 minute Scripture lesson (like American Sunday School). Chris teaches Kindergarten; Bob teaches Year 3-4 (Grades 3-4). Our school has Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim and non-Scripture classes at the same time, so parents have their choices honoured.

This year Chris is also the School Chaplain (American: community welfare worker). This is a new role, so pray for wisdom in establishing the culture.

It's time to dispel the myths about school chaplains

Chaplaincy program is invaluable, says Principal

Margaret Coote, recently retired Principal of Homebush West Primary School, Sydney, is a firm believer in school chaplaincy. She says...

I believe the school chaplaincy program has been invaluable at Homebush West Public School where the mobility of the population is high and so many members of the school community are new arrivals to Australia. The chaplain has made all new members of the community feel welcome. She has been a wonderful asset in facilitating communication between home and school.

ExoDay

ExoDay is an annual event to remind high school students that life with God is excellent.

At Strathfield Girl's High School we usually have a Christian band during lunch time. This year we had Driven One Love.

This year after the concert we gave out cards inviting the girls to our website (www.sosclubs.net.au) where they can learn more about Jesus. Here is what Emmanuel says on our site:

Inner and Outer Beauty

Each year we hold a seminar on Inner and Outer Beauty for the Year 6 girls from the local primary school in our home. In our nieghbourhood girls are not allowed to wear makeup until they enter high school (Year 7) and there is a great buzz at school the day of the workshop.

Chris and some of the graduates of the local school teach the girls which colours go best with their skin, how to select and put on fingernail polish, and basic facial makeup. Chris also talks about how Jesus makes us beautiful on the inside.

Here is video of some personal one on one coaching at the end of the event.

The Good Samaritan

Here is a play that the Year 4/3 Protestant Scripture Class made.
We hope you enjoy it and will leave your comments below:

This comes from Luke 10:25-37. You can read the script of our play.

What did you think of the video?
What does your family teach about befriending people from other cultures and religions?
Tell about a time when you invited someone from another culture or religion to your house.

We are looking for schools and churches who will partner with our Scripture class by making a video for one of our upcoming lessons.

National Thanksgiving Day

National Thanksgiving Day is a new celebration started only 3 years ago. Each year we thank a different group of people in our society. This year the focus was on thanking people who take care of children.

Chris worked with the School Representative Council members to decorate vases for their teachers and give them flowers and cards on that special day. They also took certificates to several of the pre-schools in the area.

Here is a photo of their presentation to the teachers at the public school nextdoor.

Clowning around the city

I am having fun training "Lofty" to be an evangelist. I am teaching him "Parables for Clowns" which you can download and learn yourself.

Here we are at the Merrylands festival. Lofty is a quick learner and shared the Gospel quite boldly with all the children and adults we met.

A walk to the churches and temples around us

Today we joined the students of the local public school as they walked to visit the buildings of worship in our community. We heard first hand from the people who lead worship in these buildings. Here is what they had to say:

A High School outreach

The band, Destination Life, played at Strathfield Girls High School (SGHS) today during the lunch break. Over 500 girls listened as the band played a mixture of secular and Christian songs and shared briefly about the difference that Jesus Christ makes in thier life.

Ice Cream Day

Chris taught the Year 6/5 students how to make ice cream today.
