At this time of year we usually focus our Discovery Bible Study on the Christmas event. My goal is that our group members can tell the story from the time the angel came to Mary through to the time Joseph and Mary left for Egypt. That allows them to say "from the very beginning there were some people like the wisemen who worshipped Jesus and others like King Herod who wanted to get rid of him."
Last time we looked at Luke 1:26-56. Our group was amazed at how positive Mary responded to what God asked her to do. An immediate willingess to put herself in a very difficult situation. Thepassage was a bit long for our group, so with our second group we shortened this to Luke 1:26-45. If you include Mary's Song (vs 45-56) it might be best to let the person look at the passage while they put it in their own words.
Tonight we are doing Luke 2:1-20. I am looking forward to letting people use our nativity set when retelling the story. There is something special about moving the figures around while telling the story.
On Friday night the women in our various groups have invited their friends to a Gingerbread House Party, where they will hear a talk on the significance of Christmas before they start decorating their houses.
What are you doing special with your groups for Christmas? I would love to hear your ideas.
