What Bill says about disciplemaking

I thought you might want to read what Bill Hodgson said about disciplemaking.

Bill started the youth ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ in Australia, was our National Director, and is now an international leader with Global Church Movements.

Bill has written several training programs including Shift m2M, which is designed to help church leaders move from running ministries to leading movements.

I asked Bill about disciplemaking as we rode out to the Blue Mountains.  Here is how I would summarize what he said:

As you lead each session of your training, keep focused on the big picture.  What is the one thing you want people to remember?  What action do you want them to take when they leave?

It is OK to be creative in the way you teach, but being creative is not the goal.  The goal is to make sure people learn.

When you write a new training lesson think through carefully how to structure things so that people can most easily put the new information or skill into action.

Repeat and teach key words and phrases.  There are some words and phrases you want everyone in your movement to use regularly.  In Campus Crusade these include "being filled with the Spirit" , "fulfilling the Great Commission in our generation"  and "connecting people to Jesus and one another".  Help your team identify  these words and make sure that everyone is clear about what they mean. Then use them regularly.

Which of these insights was most helpful to you?

What can you do this week to put this insight into action?

Till next time,
